With ‘learning’ as the central theme, Maastricht University, the Municipality of Maastricht and the Province of Limburg are working together to revitalise the former Tapijn barracks. We mentioned it already in an earlier Newsflash. In the coming few years, the area will be converted into a public park, with buildings that are intended for education and research, as well as eateries for the wider public. Tapijn will be the place where students, businesses and residents of the city come together.
On Monday 16 September, the construction site of the former Tapijn barracks was open to us, UMIO employees, who will be the new inhabitants of one of the old military buildings. Thus, our iEMFC alumni and students will also experience this special environment and will soon have classes in these beautifully restored and modernised buildings with respect to the ‘old’.
We were welcomed to take a look behind the scenes and Mr. Ralph Herben, Tapijn project leader at Maastricht University, gave a tour around the construction site. We could see our new offices, the education rooms, the entrance. With a special eye for details, it will be a very nice place to work. Sustainability is the keyword for this huge project and many of the old military items and colours will return in the new designs. It was great to see!
We will move to Tapijn at the beginning of 2020. Curious to see the new iEMFC class room? Juliette and Miranda will show you… just click the button and go to the photo gallery on our website!
