On this day, we will celebrate the 5th anniversary of UMIO, the 25th anniversary of MaastrichtMBA and our international Executive Master of Finance and Control and the 30th anniversary of our Executive Master Finance and Control. Without you, as a valued alumnus, these milestones would not have been possible!

The day’s theme is ‘Looking back, moving forward’. Under this overarching theme, several inspiring (alumn) speakers will focus on expertise themes such as leadership, sustainability, innovation and digitalisation in a number of informative and interactive sessions.
During the day, there will also be ample opportunity to reminisce and look to the future with former students and teachers whilst enjoying a drink and a bite to eat.

Talking to systems like ChatGPT seems to give us quick, precise, and understandable answers on any topic one might think of. Even the developers are astonished by the power of this technology that has at its core Large Language Models and Generative AI. Some consider it as a breakthrough in the strive for superhuman AI. At the same time, there is no guarantee in the correctness of provided answers. In a hands-on session, we will experience how the systems can support us, as well as develop a better understanding of their limitations.

This workshop is more than just an introduction to AR/VR; it’s an invitation to explore the future of learning and research. Welcome to an immersive journey of discovery and innovation!
The interactive presentation by behavioral insights expert Thomas Post, will demonstrate that tiny nudges and potentially well-meant or supposedly innocent choice architecture elements can have a strong impact on our behavior and choices made. First, Thomas Post will introduce you to some important behavioral biases and explain how those shape our behaviors (sometimes in weird ways). Then, he will demonstrate the power of visualization and choice architecture, that is, the way uncertainty or choices are presented, for example, on a menu in restaurant, voting ballot paper or even for a hurricane forecast. Join this session to learn how to make better decisions and avoid mistakes as a consumer, investor or manager.
Mariëlle Heijltjes is Professor of Managerial Behavior, Dean of Maastricht University School of Business and Economics and former UMIO Executive Director. Mariëlle’s specific expertise concerns leadership and team effectiveness. On those themes, she worked with large (international) and smaller national and regional organisations. She taught in the executive MBA programmes of UM, TRIUM and Reykjavik University and is a certified Business Coach. Her research on the behaviour of (top) managers has been published in several international scientific journals. On the Anniversary Day, as a member of the panel discussion, Mariëlle looks back on, among other things, her time as UMIO Director and ahead to what it means to be a lifelong learner.

Do you feel that you could improve your current state of health and wellbeing? If these questions trigger your interest, then join this workshop on leader health and wellbeing. It provides you with the latest insights into what leader health and wellbeing actually entails and how it affects team and organizational effectiveness. It also offers you practical tools and suggestions for enhancing your leader health and wellbeing.
In this session, we focus on the topics of sustainability and compliance. Initially, topics that may not have much in common. The relevance of both topics separately will be discussed, and then the relationship will be outlined. Hard and soft controls to achieve a compliance-focused culture will also be considered. These insights are applicable to many sub-areas, including sustainability.
Discover the power of sales with Rob Amory, MBA alumnus of the first hour. Rob has gained 32 years of experience in sales at several internationally oriented corporates. In his interactive session, he shares his insights as a sales manager and sales executive, and discusses the valuable lessons he learned during his MBA at MaastrichtMBA. Join Rob in exploring the importance of sales in a company, explore the versatility of the sales profession, and discover Rob’s methodology for improving sales performance at companies.
Fernanda leads the Global Trade organization for Collins Aerospace (an RTX Business) in support of Collins’ Enterprise Operations. She is part of UMIO’ s Executive MBA On-Campus community and has served as member of the board of Maastricht University’s Women Business Network (WBN). Her session will address an important diversity and inclusion topic in the workplace, “Unconscious Bias”. Awareness on this topic helps us recognize our own biases to reduce stereotyping, generalizations or assumptions about certain groups of people. Fernanda will be sharing some of her multi-cultural challenges as an international leader and will provide some tips on how to reinforce company training programs and/or individual awareness on this topic.
