Developing talent together
The MaastrichtMBA with its Triple Crown accreditation keeps high standards with regard to the application and admission procedures. To safeguard the programme’s current quality and to ensure a stimulating learning environment in future as well, we only select smart, talented and motivated professionals with an entrepreneurial attitude, a creative spirit and an inquisitive mind to take part.
Applying for an MBA programme can be an ambitious endeavour, yet we prefer to make this procedure as simple as possible for candidates interested in the MaastrichtMBA.
Our application procedure in a nutshell…
STEP 1: THE APPLICATION
Your application starts by filling out our online application form and uploading the required documents.
STEP 2: THE INTERVIEW
Once we have received your complete application file, you are invited to an intake interview with the MBA director.
STEP 3: THE ASSESSMENT
After the interview, the MBA Admission Committee will carefully review your application and reach a conclusion.
Your application starts by filling out our online application form and uploading a bundle of required documents. Based on your input, the MBA Admission Office creates a personal application dossier that allows the MBA Admission Committee to perform a detailed assessment on your eligibility for the programme.
Below you find more information on each of the documents required to complete your application…
Application form
Applying for our MaastrichtMBA programme starts by filling out the official online MBA application form. This form will ask you to provide general information about you as a potential student of our MBA programme. The application form will establish the foundation of your admission profile.
Click here to start your application process.
Motivation letter
The motivation letter provides you with the opportunity to present unique information about yourself to the MBA Admission Committee. The letter should answer the following questions:
Curriculum vitae
The curriculum vitae contains a description of your current job and your past work experience. It should include the dates of employment and company name, job title and responsibilities, management experience, budget responsibility and achievements.
Degrees & transcripts
Certified copies of your degrees and transcripts can be obtained at the student affairs office of your university or other legal authorities such as notaries and municipality offices. Certified copies contain the text ‘certified copy from original’. International candidates whose academic records are in a language other than English, French, German or Dutch must submit both the originals as well as certified translations.
Reference forms
We request that you provide us with two references from persons who are able to assess your intellectual ability, maturity, motivation, leadership potential and suitability for admission to the MaastrichtMBA. The references could be from your employer, the person you report to, or a former employer. The format of the reference is defined by the online reference form that your referees should fill out.
Click here to visit the reference form.
Admission Test *
Candidates for the MaastrichtMBA who are required to take an additional admission test like the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or Executive Assessment (EA) should make sure that the official score report is sent directly to our business school.
Language proficiency *
For the MaastrichtMBA programme, proficiency in speaking, reading and writing English is essential since the entire programme is conducted in the English language. Applicants whose native language is not English and who have not graduated with a degree from an English speaking university could be required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Test (IELTS).
Passport & passport-size picture
Please include a digital copy of your passport or identity card and a digital passport-size picture of yourself. These documents are solely required to complete the formal registration process at Maastricht University. Following on the submission of these documents, you will receive a student ID card at the start of the MBA programme, which proofs you are an officially registered student at our university.
Application fee
The fee for applying to the MaastrichtMBA programme amounts to € 200 and covers the handling costs of your application dossier. The fee will be invoiced to the stated invoice address and is unrelated to the final decision by the MBA Admission Committee.
* These elements are not required for all applicants. Please make sure to ask the MBA Admission Office before taking any tests.
Once we have received your complete application, you are invited to an intake interview on campus with our MBA director. To prepare well for the intake interview, go through your application documents and make sure you can touch upon elements that might have remained unclear. Also take a look at the contents of your motivational letter and see if it adds value to elaborate a bit more on your motivations and arguments for joining the MaastrichtMBA.
As a final advice, please note that the intake interview serves to “add a face” to the application file and learn more about the person behind the documents, so please don’t fear the interview too much. We won’t bite, on the contrary, we are very keen on welcoming you at Maastricht University!
After your application documents have been submitted and the intake interview has taken place, the MBA Admission Committee will carefully review your application and reach a conclusion. The Committee is an independent panel of experienced academics and practitioners who will provide a binding advice to the MBA Admission Office. The Office contacts you as soon as the advice has been provided. Usually the assessment process takes 2-3 weeks to complete.
The following outcomes are possible based on the advice of the MBA Admission Committee:
UNCONDITIONAL ADMISSION
Congratulations! You are now a student of the MaastrichtMBA, allowed to start at the next intake moment!
CONDITIONAL ADMISSION
You are being granted admission, assuming you are going to meet additional criteria before you start, such as a GMAT score or a language test score.
REJECTION
Your application has been rejected because minimum requirements have not been met.
To be eligible for admission, you need to adhere to the following minimum requirements:
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
Bachelor’s degree from a recognised research university or university of applied sciences
WORK EXPERIENCE
Five years of relevant work experience obtained after your bachelor’s degree
LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY
Proficiency in English, including reading, writing and speaking
Based on the weight of your admission file and the outcomes of the intake interview, the MBA Admission Committee is allowed to request an additional admission test, like the GMAT or Executive Assessment. Where the GMAT is for young professionals with up to 10 years of work experience, the Executive Assessment is for more senior professionals with at least 10 years of work experience.
The MaastrichtMBA provides two intakes per year. To start in February, application files should be submitted no later than November 1st. To start in May, your application should no be admitted later than March 1st. In case you prefer to start in September, your files need to be sent June 1st at the latest. The time interval between application and start is necessary to allow the MBA Admission Committee sufficient time to assess your application file and to allow you as an accepted candidate enough time to show up well-prepared for your first educational episode.
The next moments to start your MBA:
START IN MAY 2019
Application deadline: 1 March, 2019
START IN SEPTEMBER 2019
Application deadline: 1 June, 2019
START IN FEBRUARY 2020
Application deadline: 1 November, 2019
The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is an independent, international, standardised admission test. The test measures candidates’ verbal, mathematical and analytical skills. Our business school uses the GMAT for young professionals with up to 10 years of work experience to determine the competencies of these potential candidates for an advanced study in business and management. For more information about the test, please visit the GMAC website or contact the MaastrichtMBA office.
To kick off your preparations for the GMAT, we offer free sessions on campus where we explain the structure of the test in detail and practise with some actual test questions. These so-called “GMAT kick-off sessions” are by no means exhaustive and should be regarded as a starting point of your preparations only. The majority of candidates will need at least several weeks afterwards to get ready for the test.
In case you are interested in attending one of our GMAT kick-off sessions, please check our upcoming events or contact the MBA Admission Office.
The Executive Assessment is specifically designed for Executive MBA (EMBA) programs. It is for more senior professionals with at least 10 years of work experience and it has been created specifically to measure the skills and knowledge of experienced professionals. It’s designed to require minimal preparation and takes significantly less time at 90 minutes. Also, instead of being reported separately, your Integrated Reasoning score on the Executive Assessment is included as part of your Total score. For more information about the test, please visit the Executive Assessment website or contact the MaastrichtMBA office.
Although there is no session dedicated to the Executive Assessment, you are more than welcome to join one of our GMAT kick-off sessions to get a feeling for the kind of questions that can be asked. Next to that, EA practice assessments are available on their website.
All the way from your initial orientation to the ultimate decision to apply for the MaastrichtMBA, our MBA Admission Office is available 24/7 to personally guide you through the process.
