Mariëlle Heijltjes has served as Dean of Maastricht University School of Business and Economics (SBE) since September 2022. Prior to that role she combined the managerial responsibilities of leading SBE’s professional development division UMIO with designing and delivering executive education in leadership. She is also full professor in Managerial Behaviour and has extensive international experience in working with executives and top management teams on questions of leadership effectiveness. Clients that she worked with include APG (pension group), Daimler, European Society of Cardiology, Unilever, Vodafone and World Bank as well as smaller regionally and nationally operating organizations. She has taught in the executive MBA programs of Maastricht University, TRIUM (HEC Paris, London School of Economics, Stern School of Business at New York University), and Reykjavik University. In addition, Mariëlle is frequently invited as a speaker, panellist or moderator at different events and programs worldwide.
Translating academic research into actionable insights for globally responsible leaders is the driving focus of her work with practitioners. Her research on managerial and executive behaviour has appeared in leading academic journals, including the Academy of Management Review, Small Group Research, the Journal of International Business Studies and Organization Studies. Her 2024 book, Over Moed Gesproken: Reflecties op je eigen leiderschap (in Dutch; “On Courage: Reflections on Leading Yourself”), brings this research directly to practitioners as a framework for reflecting on their own leadership.
Beyond her roles at SBE, Mariëlle serves on the AACSB International Board of Directors, the International Advisory Boards of CENTRUM PUCP (Peru), EADA (Spain), Luiss Business School (Italy), the College of Commerce at National Chengchi University (Taiwan), Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University School of Management (Japan), and UTS Business School (Australia) as well as on the Supervisory Board of Sally Dansgezelschap (a Dutch dance company). In September 2021, she completed Mastered, a business coach certification program by Meyler Campbell in the UK.
